Beverley Fire Station opened its doors to the public this weekend.
The event was held to help raise awareness of the dangers of fire in the home while also raising money for Fire Victim Support, a charity that provides support to people whose lives have been devastated by fire.
Dee Philips, along with other volunteers from the charity, manned a wide range of stalls while the fire fighters from Beverley provide tours and demonstrations to the public.
Local Humberside Fire and Rescue Officers were also supported on the day by Sabastian Krug and his colleages from Lemgo Fire Service, Germany.
The fire fighters from Beverley’s twin town were in the UK as part of an ongoing programme to share information and techniques on how situations and emergencies are dealt with in both countries.
Sabastian said:
“Since coming back to the UK we have been taken on a number of tours by Humberside Fire and Rescue, looking at different equipment and training methods used.”
“Today is good day. It is nice to see so many people enjoying themselves while also learning at the same time.”
A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said:
“The key message is to get people not only to install smoke alarms in their home but to also test them. Batteries should be tested each and every week and replaced at least once a year.”
On Monday, Sabastian and his colleagues from Germany will visit Leconfield where they will meet up with the RAF fire fighters. The day has been arranged by Beverley Town Councillor David Elvidge to help strengthen the relationship between Lemgo and Beverley and the respective fire services.
