With the closure all Jessops stores which included the one in Beverley it is worth remembering we still have a camera shop, the Beverley Camera Centre.
A local business Phil Stebbens has been trading in Beverley since 1980 and on Saturday, I popped in to see him to find out how the closure of the Jessops branch in Beverley had effected his business.
Phil had mixed feelings about Jessops; he was sorry for the staff, though he also has seen a off a national store who competed for his business.
He said he had already had a few new customers and was going to extend his sale in the hope of pulling more new faces into his shop.
The Beverley Camera Centre offers a different service to what Jessops did, they not only sell new equipment, but they sell second hand equipment and stock far more accessories.
You can also use a kiosk to print photographs instantly, the last time I check these were 8×6.
Another massive advantage of the Beverley Camera Centre is the vast amount of Lens, they have in stock. Many a time I have found myself in the shop buying new equipment trading in my old gear against the price.
Going forward the loss of Jessops may give a long standing local business a big boost, and for Phil 2013 may turn out to be a great year to be in the camera business in Beverley.
