Nicholson Mistake Gifts Reckitts All Three Points

Reckitts AFC have extended their lead at the top of the Humber Premier League after they beat Beverley Town by a single goal.

A good crowd came out to support Beverley against Reckitts but won the game thanks to a goal from Gareth Barstow who scored after town keeper Adam Nicholson made a howler.

Town worked hard to get back into the game and despite a ‘festival’ of free kicks in the first half they were unable to break down a stubborn Reckitts outfit.

Beverley Town skipper Michael O’Connell said;

“This was a game we definitely didn’t deserve to lose, we have had all the possession in the second half but Reckitts defended very well and their keeper made a few good saves.”

“How he stopped what was a brilliant volley from Asa I will never know. It is Just one of those games when we could not score.”

Town boss Dave Ricardo said;

“I was very disappointed with the lads in the first half, we were very slow at the start but things did pick up.”

When asked about the goal and the mistake Nicholson made that led to the chance Ricardo said;

“Adam will win us more games than he loses us, it is just one of those things.”

The managers thoughts were echoed by the skipper who commented about the goal;

“Adam is the best keeper in the league and he had a lapse in concentration and that caused the goal but he has won us far more points than he has lost us, It won’t happen again.”

Nicholson said;

“The cross went to high and I misjudged it and gave it to Barstow who had a tap in. A very rare incident for me.”

Town could have got back into the game but Andrew Stott, Asa Pardoe and O’Connell all saw their efforts come to nothing.

Reckitts now have a six point lead in the race for the championship, Town do have two games in the hand though Reckitts certainly have the initiative.

Ricardo will need to get the champions up for next weekend when they take on Sculcoates Amateurs in the Whitehead Fish & Chips Cup.

Final Score: Beverley Town 0 Reckitts AFC 1
