Brownies & Blondies a unique eaterie located in the Georgian Quarter of Beverley closed its doors for the final time last week ending three years of providing people with their tea and cake fix.
Emma Lynn, the lady behind the business is looking to grow the baking part of her business by supplying her home-made cakes to other establishments and deliver directly to the customer’s door.
Emma said;
“I have had the best experience at Brownies & Blondies, and after just short of three years of trading have decided to close so I can continue and progress with supplying home-made cakes to Coffee shops.”
“You can currently find my cakes at ‘The English Muse‘ which is on Newland Avenue in Hull, and I am keen to take on more now my shop has closed.”
“I’m not hanging up my apron. People can order the same cakes that they bought from me before, I will be doing a delivery to Beverley on a Friday morning.”
During her three years trading in Beverley Emma has come to know her customers by the fillings they had in their sandwiches, she said;
“I know what everybody has in their sandwich, I loved a note that I got from a customer on our last day that was attached to a box of chocolates saying ‘best of luck from Mrs. BLC with butter and mayo!’ because I knew exactly who that is.”
Emma explored expanding her business by relocating to the lager premises but she felt any such move would impact on the customer experience so opted to close.
Emma said;
“The other option would have been moving and expanding the business, but I think people love the personal touch that they get in the shop, and I think that would be lost if it became bigger.”
“We have been overwhelmed by peoples’ reactions to us closing our doors, and it was a hard decision because trade was still increasing.”
“Opening in a recession with having no previous experience of running a business, and we have become busier and busier, with a very loyal customer base and student following.”
“My heart truly lies in baking; that’s why I opened Brownies & Blondies and luckily for me; it’s really taken off.”
“So much so I thought I would set up ‘the pop up bakery’ from home and keep on delivering cakes to people’s doors.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our loyal customers and supporters of Brownies & Blondies, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
