Beverley Town Cricket Club were well beaten by Driffield this weekend at the Norwood Recreation Ground.
Batting first Beverley set the visitors a target of just 137 after Driffield made light work of the home sides top order.
Alan Acklam who this season stepped down as captain shone with bat top scoring with 38 while Alex Morrell picked up 33 on his return to the club.
Driffield reached the target for the loss of just five wickets with Jamie Roe and Morrell both picking up getting to wickets each.
Skipper Jonathan Fisher told HU17.net;
“This game gave us the opportunity to put out a mixed side and have a look at the younger players in the squad. The score we posted was disappointing and I felt we let ourselves down with the bat.”
“Going forward there are many positives at Beverley Town Cricket Club, there are about 18 players who are good enough to play first team cricket which is going to make job difficult.”
Beverley will need to improve in the next week as the new season gets under way. Next Saturday they welcome Sewerby to the Norwood Recreation Ground a team that beat them by seven wickets when they last met.
Fisher added;
“I will make my final selection later in the week, there are plenty of people who rightly so are banging on my door looking to play first team cricket.”
The match gets under way from 1pm, supporters are very welcome and the bar will be open serving refreshments on the day.
