Beverley’s first meeting of the season on Wednesday (April 18) has been abandoned as the track is waterlogged in places.

Incessant rainfall in April left three waterlogged areas on the home straight which will not have sufficiently dried out for raceday.

Head groundsman John Morley and Beverley chief executive Sally Iggulden made the decision to abandon the eight-race fixture after a course inspection at 8am on Tuesday.

Iggulden said: “Despite seeing some improvement to the waterlogged areas, the rate of drying is not giving us sufficient reassurance that racing could safely go ahead.”

Beverley is next due to stage a meeting on Thursday, April 26.
