Bridlington Spa and Paul Holman Associates have announced today that Star Trek legend Marina Sirtis will headline as the Fairy in this year’s spectacular family Pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, running from Friday 14 December 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.
Best known to millions around the world for her role as the sexy and empathic Counsellor Deanna Troi in the enormously successful Star Trek: The Next Generation television series and the four Paramount feature films that followed, Sirtis gained worldwide acclaim and a legion of loyal fans. Her character was ranked within the Top 20 Most Interesting Star Trek Characters of all time in a fan poll.
Now the LA-based star is exchanging the Hollywood hills to return to the UK and its time-honoured Christmas tradition of Pantomime. No stranger to the stage, Marina made her debut with Worthing Repertory Company as Ophelia in Hamlet.
Whilst still at school, London-born Marina applied in secret to the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama because her parents initially didn’t want her to become an actress. After earning her acting chops on British TV, Marina made the move to Los Angeles and is still a regular face on television with appearances in popular US dramas NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, Girlfriends and Without a Trace to name a few.
Her numerous film credits have encompassed a multitude of genres ranging from Sci-Fi to Animation to the Oscar Winning movies La La Land and Crash.
Andrew Aldis, general manager of Bridlington Spa said, “The original Star Trek was legendary but Star Trek The Next Generation is often seen as the gold standard that other science fiction programmes are measured against so that makes this announcement particularly exciting.
“I tend to overuse words like “delighted” and “a coup” when announcing the names of stars coming to Bridlington Spa but on this occasion I am simply and completely in awe – it’s not often that you welcome a person who, among other things, has quite literally crash-landed a spaceship.
“I can’t remember a time when this show didn’t feature as one of my family’s favourites. My older brother owned every episode on VHS and he guarded them with his life. Asking to borrow one required an agreement and commitment on how the tape and case would be handled so as not to damage it.
“More recently, I’ve enjoyed watching Ms. Sirtis responding to questions in recordings of events in the US and she’s fiery, straight to the point and in complete command of the stage – perfect for ensuring that good prevails over evil in pantomime!”
Jack and the Beanstalk will feature all of the traditional favourite elements of pantomime, with plenty of audience interaction, dazzling scenery and costumes, bucket loads of laughter and, with galactic star Sirtis at the helm, promises to be Bridlington Spa’s most magnificent pantomime yet.
Producer Paul Holman said: “We are delighted that Marina Sirtis will be leading our interstellar cast this year. With her legendary popularity, she is sure to attract audiences from far and wide.”
Jack and the Beanstalk is on sale now and audiences can boldly go where no audience has gone before by calling the Bridlington Spa Box Office on 01262 678258, visiting www.bridspa.com, or in person at the Bridlington Spa.
