Walker Bulldog Tank – Build Review And Pictures The Tamiya 1/35 M-41

Tamiya 1/35 M-41 Walker Bulldog Tank is an old kit but despite its age is still a superb model that offers good value and also is nice to display once complete.

As model kits go, the Walker Bulldog Tank given its price point is certainly ideal for playing about with.

Those who are looking for something simple to make quickly will enjoy this kit. While those who want to be a little more creative have plenty of scope with this kit.

Another huge advantage of this model is the colour pallet required to complete the model. To make a decent Walker Bulldog Tank you only need green, black, brown and silver.

Of course, if you are detailing the kit then more colours, like Tamiya Clear colours can also really help make this kit pop.

What you get the kit is the tank and also three figures. These figures include a commander along with a couple of US infantrymen in different poses.

The tracks are rubber, they are pretty easy to join and while views on this type of material are mixed they do work well.

The model parts are split over a couple of sprues. It is not complex to assemble either. Of all the parts the only really tricky ones are the handles on the side of the main turret.

In terms of moving parts, this version of the Walker Bulldog Tank allows the for the turret, hatch, main gun and also machine to move.

It seems you can actually add a motor to make the tracks work but given this was a static model there was no need to explore that further.

Putting The Model Together

The first stage was to glue all the parts, but not the wheels the lower section of the tank. Next was to attach all the parts required to the main body. The wheels were they primed while still on the sprue. While these were drying the barrel was assembled. Next up was gluing all the small parts to the turret.

Each of these sections, excluding the wheels, were then primed in black. As this dried attention moved to the wheels of the tank. They were sprayed with Tamiya Olive Drab while the outer parts were hand-painted with Tamiya Black Rubber.

As they dried the main parts were now all sprayed in Olive Drab. After they dried the various parts were also given a couple of coats of a gloss.  Decals were applied to the Walker Bulldog Tank and thankfully there are not too many.

Extra Painting And Detail Call Outs

Once the decals had dried the model was again given a complete coat of clear. As this final topcoat cured attention moved back to the wheels. These were cut from the sprue and the areas that needed it given some final touch-ups.

With everything dry, the tracks were also joined ready for the final assembly. For this process, the wheels were put in place and also the tracks put on the tank. Then the main body was added and also the turret was fitted.

To finish the model some wash was also applied and the details, like the shovel was painted. A quick going over with a dry brush using silver certainly helps pull out some of the details completing the build.

Tamiya 1:35 M-41 Walker Bulldog Tank Conclusion

This is a pleasure of the project to undertake and can be completed by model makers with no or some experience.  What you get in terms of a model for your money is simply exceptional. If there was such a thing as the best models of all time then this kit would certainly deserve to be in the top ten.

Another massive positive about this kit is that those who may not normally build tanks can dip their toe in the water without breaking the bank to do so.
