ArtERY LIVE 2009

ARTERY LIVE’S NEW SEASON OF ENTERTAINMENT

Over the next four months from September to December 2009, ArtERY Live presents a new season of top-class entertainment with four companies making 18 , dance, comedy and drama performances at a wide range of East Riding venues.

Hilary James and Simon Mayor play a captivating mix of folk, swing, blues and classical showstoppers and will be performing on 4 and 5 September and returning again on 27 and 28 November and 12 December; TG Collective’s flamenco, jazz and gypsy music will be accompanied by an amazing flamenco dancer from 1 – 4 October; Two Friends Production’s new play about Nell Gwyn, Charles II’s favourite mistress, uses life size puppets to great effect from 15 – 18 October; and from 18 – 22 November ArtERY welcomes back Circus Berzercus and their show Komedy of Errors, a seriously funny, award-winning, traditional double act which has been likened to Morecambe and Wise with circus skills, containing music, juggling, unicycling, magic and loads of laughs. Ideal for both the young and young at heart!

The ArtERY Live season begins with an eclectic evening of jazz standards, folk and world music featuring Hilary James’ beautiful voice and Simon Mayor on mandolin, presented with wry humour and an easy, informal stage manner.  This entertaining duo have travelled the world from Vancouver to Singapore.

Simon is one of the world’s leading mandolin virtuosos as well as a fine guitarist and fiddle player. He has had his own series on Radio 2 and an album in the Classic FM Top Ten chart, but his most thrilling moment was a journey through the square window on ’s Playschool! Hilary James’ singing crosses the great musical divides from British ballads to blues and Berlioz. Described on BBC Radio 4 as “one of Britain’s finest voices” she is also famed for an unusual taste in bass instruments (she may turn up with her giant mandobass or slimline acoustic bass) and might even manage a step-dance if the wind’s in the right direction.
