Saturday Lunchtime Concert

International soloist Martin Roscoe will play Beverley Minster’s new £40,000 grand piano at the lunchtime concert as part of this year’s Beverley Chamber Music Festival.

The concert will feature the East Riding Youth Chamber Orchestra in a programme that celebrates the bicentenary of two composers.  Mendelssohn was born in 1809 and his overture “Fingal’s Cave” (The Hebrides) opens the programme.  Martin Roscoe joins the orchestra as soloist in Mendelssohn’s first piano concerto.  The programme is completed by Haydn’s exciting Symphony No 73 “La Chasse” as a celebration marking 200 years since Haydn’s death in 1809.

Historically speaking, music has always played a large part in the life of the Minster.  It has the largest collection of medieval music carvings in the country, a choral tradition which dates back to the 16th century, and it is a popular venue for all kinds of concerts.

Robert Mitchell, conductor of the East Riding Youth Chamber Orchestra, said: “This will certainly be a very thrilling concert for all. It will be a great experience for the 50 young players to work once again with such a gifted pianist as Martin and we hope to attract a large audience for this popular programme.”

The concert is at 1pm on Saturday, 26th September at Beverley Minster

Tickets are now on sale at the Beverley Tourist Information Centre 34 Butcher Row, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire, HU17 0AB Tel. 01482  391672.
