Beverley head to the North East on Saturday for the first of several trips to the area this season, for the National League 3 fixture against Darlington Mowden Park. Park have been a force in Northern rugby for a number of years but have slipped of late and were relegated last season from the old National league.
Nonetheless they seem to have strengthened their squad somewhat for this season and will be a tough nut to crack.
The Beavers, although enjoying a successful start to the season having won three of their four matches, have yet to record an away victory and will need to show considerable improvement over last Saturday’s performance to obtain any reward this week. They were missing their two principle play-makers in the backs last week and this showed in the fluency of their ideas and decision making.
Phil Dale who deputised at stand-off for Phil Duboulay last week reverts to the wing for this week, replacing the unavailable Vinnie Collingwood. Phil Duboulay returns at stand-off and Goran Jelencic is fit to return to the right wing. Jerry Barnes is also available again and Tony Riby-French also returns after injury. With the exception of Junior Tupai who will be out for several more weeks yet with a broken arm, the Beavers at last seem to be in a position to name nearly a full strength squad. That being the case they head north in buoyant mood.
