Town got back to action after a 2 week lay off, and hosted an entertaining game packed full of incidents!
New signing Steve Irwin made his debut at centre half, replacing jay custus whose wife had gone into labour.
Both teams had some good early possession in extremely windy conditions and the only option was to keep the ball on the ground and play football!
Hedon took first blood after a good move, both strikers linked well to carve out an opening and slot home from 10 yards. Town struck back straight away with a flowing move from defence to attack that saw craig lamplugh side foot home after great team work.
Shortly after this towns keeper mark cockin had to be substituted due to injury, and was replaced by Chris Dixon who came of the bench and pulled on the gloves as a makeshift keeper.
Dixons first job though was to pick the ball out of the net, as town failed to deal with a high ball, hedon rangers striker flicked the ball on, a midfielder ran onto the knock down and scrambled the ball over the line! In his attempt to deal with the danger, Dixon received a dead leg and was struggling to carry on in goal. With only 5 minutes to go to half time town struck again to level the game in controversial style!
Mike oconnell whipped in a corner that was defended well but came straight back out to him on the right hand side. He then cut in field a little and curled a vicious left footed cross that was met perfectly by rich Jagger who headed the ball over the keeper and into the top left hand corner!
However the linesman flagged for off side, much to the dismay of Jagger and his team mates, as there were clearly 2 defenders behind him as he headed the ball! The referee however made a brave decision as he approached the linesman, had a quick discussion and overturned his decision and awarded the goal! Half time 2-2 During half time replacement keeper Dixon was examined by Stu Akaster, and deemed unfit to carry on. This meant town had to introduce their third keeper of the day, and Winston Winn was thrown down the challenge of keeping goal!
Town started the second half really well. They looked more organised, the midfield trio of Jon Ricardo, Trev Lynn and Steve skinns were creating chance after chance and it was a matter of time before the goal would come. After some great work from rich Durham down the right hand side, craig lamplugh was on hand to score his second goal of the game and put town 3-2 up. For the next 30 minutes town dominated, lamplugh failed to convert from 3 one on ones with the keeper, and full back Eddie rafton also squandered a one on one after good work from Trev Lynn.
Town were made to pay for their wastefulness when hedon struck with 10 minutes remaining. After a diagonal ball to the back post, the rangers winger ghosted in to fire past the otherwise solid Winston Winn.
As the final whistle blew town were bitterly disappointed not to get all 3 points and must be more ruthless in the coming weeks if they are to push for honours.
Steve Irwin, played a large portion of the game with his head bound…..
