Beverley athletes were out in force at the Haltemprice 10k last weekend and were rewarded with an impressive haul of prizes.

First Beverley runner to finish and fourth overall was James Pearson who has made a big impression since joining the club recently.  James was in third position for most of the race but was overtaken by Adam Fossard of City of Hull in the last kilometre.

New personal best times were set by Steve Hadley, Andy Johnson and Elaine Julian.  Steve won the handicap and all three beat their handicap time by two minutes.  This is quite an achievement as the course is far from easy.  The first 7 kilometres are mostly uphill and last Sunday runners also had a gusty headwind to contend with.

Beverley ladies performed particularly well and veterans’ prizes were awarded to:  Sam Allen FV 35; Debs Brant FV40; Tina Wardropper FV45; Jackie Wright FV45; Pam Atkins FV60.

Three Beverley men were also amongst the prize winners for their respective age group: Pete Fielding-Smith MV40; Steve Jackson MV45; Eddy Moore MV65.

John Curry completed the race as part of his training for the Macau marathon in China at the beginning of December.  He clocked up 15 miles altogether on Sunday by running from home to the race and back.

Kay Farrow had another excellent run beating her time for the much flatter Howden 10k by 30 seconds.

The race was won by Carl Ryde of Doncaster AC in 34.07.  The first lady to finish was Amanda Dean of West Hull Ladies in 42.41.
