Shoppers making their way to the East Riding to buy Christmas gifts will benefit for the second year in a row from a free parking scheme.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council is suspending parking charges at car parks throughout the East Riding during the three weekends leading up to Christmas.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of the council, said: “This initiative was very popular last year and we are pleased to offer it again this December. We hope that people will take advantage of the free parking by coming to East Riding towns to do their Christmas shopping.”
Shoppers using East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s car-parks or on-street parking locations will find once again that machines will not accept their money and will carry signs advertising the offer.
Councillor Matthew Grove, portfolio holder for highway maintenance, streetscene and emergency planning said: “We hope that this measure will, for a second year in row help thousands of seasonal shoppers as they buy gifts locally for their friends and family.
“We hope that shoppers will be encouraged to come to the East Riding to try the wide range of quality shops on offer in the pleasant surroundings of our wonderful market towns.”
All council car parks will be free from 8am on Saturday until 8am on Monday.
