Beverley ARLC won today in the cup brushing aside the opponents, Lamworth with by a staggering 52 – 10 score line, Leeroy Stevens also managed to get on the score sheet to cap off a great day for Beverley ARLC.
Match Report: The blue and golds ruthlessly dismissed youthful opposition last Saturday at the Leisure Centre and in doing so landed a tasty semi final clash away to Holderness Vikings. They dominated the game from start to finish and were on the scoreboard within five minutes when Mathew Bielby pounced on a loose ball sprinted away and sent Lee Atkinson over for the first of ten tries.
Shortly after slick handling to the left on two occasions sent Craig Hamlet, who was playing in the unaccustomed role of centre, over for a brace of tries. The scoreboard ticked along further as Gavin Proctor and Steve Davidson added more tries to send the hosts 28- 0 up at the interval.
The second half continued in similar fashion but for a couple of concentration lapses which allowed the visitors two consolation tries. Aaron Clark rounded off a good passing movement with a try but the outstanding moment of the half featured prop forward Lee Stevens who powered his way over from ten metres out despite the attentions of at least 3 Lambwath defenders to score his first ever try in 3 years of playing open age amateur rugby league. He was suitably mobbed by his team-mates!
The rout continued with Gavin Proctor adding a second try and Mike Brown also got on the scoresheet. Just before full time another good handling movement ended with Steve Davidson sending Tony Spence over for a try which ensured he has still not failed to get on the scoresheet in any game this season.
Coach Rich Shaw commented ” This was a game we were never going to lose and it allowed us to be a little more experimental in attack and we showed just what we are capable of with the ball in hand but as a perfectionist I was a little disappointed we did not keep a clean sheet in defence”
This Saturday sees the blue and golds return to league action when new side Horners provide the opposition at the Leisure Centre
