Beverley RUFC embark upon another long trip to Merseyside on Saturday when they take on Birkenhead Park to commence the second half of their National League 3 campaign.
They ended the first half with a comprehensive victory at West Hartlepool last weekend by 39 pts to 5, to see them comfortably in 6th place in the table, having won 7, lost 5 and drawn 1 of their fixtures.
Club Chairman Malcolm Cunningham said today, “This is a very satisfactory position to be in at this stage, particularly when one takes into account the terrible run of injuries that we have suffered in the 1st half of the season. Four broken arms and a broken ankle is unprecedented and I am very encouraged by the way in which the team have responded, particularly over the last few weeks.
The only match in which we have been comprehensively beaten was that against Sheffield Tigers, and no-one has been able to explain our performance that day. This shows we have nothing to fear from anyone in this league but we will not become complacent.”
This week’s encounter will be very tough as the Beavers only beat Birkenhead at Beaver Park with a couple of late scores earlier in the season and will, once again, be heavily out-muscled in the pack. However, at West Hartlepool last Saturday the forwards made up for their lack of weight with some tenacious tackling and greater mobility.
This week the Beavers retain the same squad but add Dave Brant who will take a late fitness test on Thursday night.
