Artic Weather Threatens Beaver’s Trip to Sheffield

Beverley RUFC are keeping their fingers crossed that the threatened return of the arctic weather does not materialise this weekend. They are scheduled to travel to Sheffield to face Sheffield Tigers in the National League 3 North fixture and should the game go ahead it will be their  first taste of competitive rugby for 6 weeks.

Beverley RUFC are just 7 points behind the Tigers, and have a game in hand, Beverley’s current form is slightly better too and have lost 1 game less the the Tigers, Beverley RUFC  have also only lost one of their last six games whilst the Sheffield Tigers go into the game on the back of three straight defeats.

Last time out the Sheffield Tigers beat Beverley RUFC comfortably, the fixture at Beverley last October however is a shock result the Sheffield Tigers were beaten on the road by bottom club West Hartlepool last Saturday. Not withstanding that, they have been prominent near the top of the table all season and will be harbouring hopes of a play-off place at least so this will certainly be a very tough encounter for Beverley RUFC.

The Beavers, despite their long layoff, have some injury problems, particularly in the front row. Hookers Rob Todd, Martin Shaw and Shaun Cross all remain injured, but Beverley have managed to sign Ali Forth, a very promising young hooker from Hull Ionians, on loan until the end of the season. Ali trained with the Beavers in pre-season and through September but his move then hit snags as Ionians were also experiencing problems of their own.

Meanwhile Beverley 2nd XV take on Goole at Beaver Park in an East Yorkshire Merit League game. 1st team scrum half Ian Archibald has taken over the role of 2nd team coach during his recuperation period from a broken arm and will assist new team manager Kevin Roe with the organisation in training and on match days. They will liaise closely with James McKay regarding selection of the teams in order that second team players showing the potential can feed through into the first team squad.
