Beverley Town Mohicans V Beverley Whitestar

With the very cold weather causing many pitches to be frozen it was a wise decision to book the 3G pitch at Longcroft. Beverley Town Mohicans were in confident mood and started very well with Louie Kelly and Jamie Spence pressuring Whitestars’ midfield and gained possession for Dan Naldrett to thread a ball through for Alex Stock to hold off a challenge and score in the corner within 40 seconds.

Greg Whyley and Harry Staniforth stopped any attacks down the wings and with Dan Naldrett, Alex Stock and Jamie Spence winning everything in the centre of midfield, Mohicans were dominating the early exchanges. Jamie Spence won a challenge, played a nice simple ball to Dan Naldrett who passed to Steve Heath who scored confidently with a powerful shot. On 10 minutes Steve Heath turned provider for Louis Spivey who hit a great shot from the edge of the box and hit the roof of the net.

Mohicans continued to play attractive passing football and a move involving Will Collingwood to Jamie Spence to Alex Stock was then finished well by Oliver Morrison. At 4-0 Mohicans were cruising and scored two more goals by Oliver Morrison, the second when Jamie Spence played a neat chip over the top of the Whitestars defence for Sam Tuft to control and set up Oliver Morrison and then Steve Heath finishing another great move to put them 7-0 up at half time.

Manager Dave Collingwood was ‘very pleased’ with the standard of the football the boys played and called for the same in the second half. Rotating the subs meant everyone was called on to play their part, and with Will Woods being solid at the back, Marc O’Hare filling in left midfield and Sam Tuft showing brilliant ball skills, Mohicans played some of their best football.

Will Collingwood set up Louis Spivey to score his second and then Harry Staniforth played him in for a great hattrick. Goalkeeper Charlie Brooks made his first contribution when punching well from a corner. Greg Whyley layed a ball into Will Collingwood who somehow managed to get it up in the air and with a sublime overhead kick scored in the far corner. The scoring was completed by Sam Tuft who battled through, showed great skill and a calm finish to make it 11-0. Well done boys. Good luck in the final.
