Pearce Expects a Tough Challenge at Cleckheaton

After a disappointing home defeat by Penrith last Saturday, courtesy of a dubious last minute penalty, Beverley RUFC travel to Cleckheaton this weekend to take on the West Riding outfit in the National League 3(North) fixture.

Although languishing in the bottom three in the table  for most of the season, Cleckheaton looked one of the better sides when the visited Beaver Park last September and coach Barrie Pearce is expecting a tough game.

“After a poor first half last Saturday, we were a different side in the second and, in the end, were a shade unlucky not to win. We will need to forget that first half and replicate the second to prevail this weekend, “ he said this week. “Losing Phil Duboulay so early in the game certainly disrupted us but Jade Gardiner came on after his rib injury and, once he had recovered his confidence, proved a more than adequate replacement”

Duboulay is not fit to play this weekend and the Beavers will start with the same back line that finished last week’s game.

Fran Pickering is not available this week and his place in the squad will be taken by Martin Shaw. Similarly, it is not yet certain that Gavin Gibson is available and Andy Meagher is also added to the squad.

Beverley RUFC v Cleckheaton (away) meet clubhouse at 11 a.m,
