The Youth Café this Friday 12th, is expected to be a sell out with over 250 young people coming to the Minster. The Pop Stars themed event is showcasing two local bands, Star Shaped city, and Alex Bampton. Numbers attending the Youth Café has risen slightly in recent months, and the last attendance peaked at over 280. All money raised through ticket sales and tuck shop, has recently gone towards a new £3000 5kw sound system, which at some stage belonged to the Prodigy.
The Youth Café team are looking at recruiting some new young people to its managing group, in order to plan future events and introduce new ideas. If you are ages between 11-18 and wish to be a member, please contact Lee Kirkby 01482 868540 or contact him through the Youth Café website.
The Youth Café’s sister event, the Night Café is a much more intimate, coffee house atmosphere and provides the venue for conversation, acoustic acts and provides a place for young people just to ‘be’. Night Café is currently irregular, but will be a regular event post Easter, every Friday night 7.00pm till 9.30pm in the Emmaus Room at Beverley Minster.
The Youth Team are also looking at recruiting Gap Year workers from September, and an information pack is available from the Youth Ministry website. In order to manage the development, and growth of the youth work at Beverley Minster, additional human and financial resources are necessary. As Beverley Minster provides the largest single youth event in the area, we are taking seriously the needs and expectations of young people in the town, and we are prepared to meet them.
