Over £1000 was raised last Saturday for the Teenage Cancer Trust at a fundraising event at Beverley Leisure Centre.
Molescroft Mum Sylvia Hood organised the evening of sport and music to raise funds in memory of her son David who sadly died of bone cancer at the age of 18 in June 2007.
Sylvia was delighted with the amount raised and said afterwards “The evening was a great success and I would like to thank everybody for their support, especially Leisure Centre Manager John Taylor, Fitness Manager Paul Cuttill and their staff who set up and supervised all the activities.”
Those who attended the event enjoyed exercise to music with Linda Lawson and body combat with Jason Sloan. There was also table tennis, short tennis, badminton and basket ball. For the less energetic Cherry Lethem provided reflexology and Ruth Bower offered relaxing massage.
Tom Hood, David’s brother, joined up with Peter Caswell to provide soothing acoustic music in the bar.
The money raised will be shared between the proposed Teenage Cancer Trust unit at Castle Hill Hospital and the charity’s unit at St James’s Hospital in Leeds where David was treated.
Sylvia is also organising a running event at Beverley Leisure Centre on Wednesday 17 March which would have been David’s 21st birthday. In the run up to Sport Relief those wanting to help raise funds for TCT can just turn up to donate money and run a mile round the field. The event starts at 6 pm. Raffle tickets will also be available.
The programme of fundraising activities continues at 1 pm on Sunday 21 March. Sylvia is organising a Sport Relief Mile at Beverley Leisure Centre and all money raised will go to Sport Relief.
