Beverley Head West to Face Stockport

Stockport_home

Once again Beverley RUFC head over the Pennines to take on table topping Stockport. Once again the Beavers will be looking to halt their recent slide and, on the face of it, they face a tremendous task.

However, they will take heart from their performance last week at Rossendale when, were it not for some extremely over zealous use of yellow cards by a very poor referee, they would almost certainly have ended their losing sequence then.

With Beverley playing up a considerable slope, into a howling wind, the scores were level at 3-3 after 25 minutes. The Beavers were playing some excellent rugby and looking very comfortable when 3 yellow cards and a penalty try within the space of ten minutes, completely killed them. Rossendale scored 27 points in this ten minute period, the referee gave no explanation for the cards even to the Beverley skipper and a shell shocked Beverley side were never going to recover.

Once back to full strength and playing down the considerable slope, the Beavers fought back bravely but, despite the referee awarding penalty after penalty against Rossendale, but no yellow cards, they were unable to make up the difference.

This week it is hoped that Craig Hancock will be fit to return and Goran Jelencic also returns to the wing.
