Voting for the three East Riding constituencies will take place at the 255 polling stations across the area, which will be open from 7am until 10 pm on General Election day, Thursday, May 6.
There are three parliamentary constituencies wholly in the East Riding. These are:
- Beverley & Holderness (poll count at Beverley Leisure Centre
- East Yorkshire (poll count at Driffield Sports Hall)
- Haltemprice & Howden (poll count at Haltemprice Leisure Centre)
Two other constituencies are partly in the East Riding. These are Hull West & Hessle and Brigg & Goole. Arrangements for the election to these constituencies are being managed by Hull City and North Lincolnshire councils respectively.
The closing date for nominations for the Parliamentary Election is 4 pm, Tuesday, April 20. Information about the candidates will be posted on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council website as soon as possible after this time.
CASUAL VACANCY
Due to a casual vacancy on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council there is an election to one seat in Willerby and Kirk Ella also taking place on Thursday 6 May 2010. The closing date for nominations to this election is Thursday 8 April.
DEADLINES (BOTH)
The deadline for amending existing postal, proxy and postal proxy applications, or requesting new postal or postal proxy votes is Tuesday 20 April. The deadline for requesting proxy applications is 27 April 2010.
The Acting Returning Officer is Nigel Pearson, Chief Executive of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
Poll cards will be issued to all registered East Riding electors. In the meantime, anyone with enquiries should contact the council’s Electoral Registration service on (01482) 393312.
The results for the 2005 General Election were as follows:
- Beverley and Holderness – Graham Stuart (Conservative) elected. Majority 2,580.
- East Yorkshire – Greg Knight (Conservative) elected. Majority 6,283.
- Haltemprice and Howden – David Davis (Conservative) elected. Majority 5,116.
- Haltemprice and Howden By-election 2008 – David Davis (Conservative) elected. Majority 15,355.
