Hello Dolly by the Beverley Musical Theatre

Premier Night for Dick Whittington & Sam the Cat

Beverley Musical Theatre are putting the finishing touches to Hello Dolly, their latest show to be staged at the Hull New Theatre.

Hello Dolly will run from Tuesday 12 May to Saturday 15 May, with a Saturday matinee. Tickets are available from the Hull City Hall booking office on 226655.

Based on The Matchmaker by Thornton Wilder, Hello Dolly tells the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a matchmaker who has been hired to arrange a marriage for the widowed half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder.

But Dolly, also recently widowed, has other ideas and sees Horace and his fortune as a perfect match for herself.

Funny and poignant, it tells the tale of how Dolly tries to ruin any chance of a relationship between Horace and Irene Molloy, the pretty young widow she has chosen for him.

And in the meantime, down in the bowels of Vandergelder’s Hay and Feed Store, two of his employees are plotting to take advantage of the boss’
absence. Cornelius and Barnaby have decided to sneak off for their first-ever peek at the big city.

The lead role of Dolly is played by Mandy Pearson, relatively new to the group but who has had professional acting training, while Horace is played by Ian Start, a regular leading man with Beverley Musical Theatre and other societies.

The role of Irene Molloy goes to Kirsten Griffiths and Cornelius Haka is played by Ian Thompson, a long-standing group member and director (and dame) of the group’s pantomimes.

The show is full of instantly-recognisable songs, from Hello Dolly to Put On Your Sunday Clothes to Before The Parade Passes By.
