This was an extraordinary game of rugby. Littered equally with mistakes and champagne rugby from the Beavers it was nevertheless an exciting game with, eventually, the right outcome.
As is normal with the Beavers, this last away game of the season is used as an occasion for the players to let their hair down, dress up in fancy dress and have a good night out on the way home. Unfortunately this has in the past reflected itself in their performance on the field and for the first 10 minutes on Saturday it looked as if today was going to be no different.
West Park rattled up 12 points before the Beavers had the chance to catch their breath. However, suddenly coming to life, Beverley RUFC ran in a superb try by Richard Bussey which Phil Duboulay converted and 4 minutes later another by Mike Kilgannon, also coverted by Duboulay saw them in the lead by 14 points to 12 after 20 minutes.
Back came West Park and slack tackling by Beverley RUFC let in first Briers and then Hull for two tries under the posts within two minutes, both of which were converted to give West Park the lead at half time by 26 points to 14.
Quite what was said in the team talk at half time to the Beverley RUFC side but they were transformed. Four tries in 14 minutes by Richard Bussey ,James McKay, Dale Hodgson and Chris Infield, two of which were converted by Phil Duboulay and another 10 minutes later from Danny Morris, again converted by Duboulay took the Beavers to an unassailable lead of 45 points to 26 and, although Millward scored a consolation try for West Park on 80 minutes, Duboulay finished the game with a penalty to give Beverley RUFC a sweet victory by 48 points to 31.
