At the request of the Lions’ Organisation the parents and carers have donated unwanted children’s books in good condition.
Following the Tsunami in Sri Lanka, schools and other institutions lost all their books and are hoping to build p their stocks again to benefit all the children in that country.
To help with getting the books to Sri Lanka, a member of the Lions’ based there has agreed to pay all the cost of transportation for any books donated from Britain.
As a result of this gesture Lions’ clubs throughout the country have no appealed for books and they will all be sent to Sri Lanka. David Whincup, the managing director of Beverley based ‘Educare Nursery and also a member of Lions, appealed to parents of children at the nursery for unwanted books.
Several boxes have since been collected and the manger, Jane Bradley handed them over this morning to the president of the Beverley Lions Club, Ian Sagar who will ensure their onward transportation to Sri Lanka.
