An Adam Foster header in the dying seconds of the match secured a place at the Lane Rental Stadium, Queensgate, Bridlington on Tuesday May 11th. Hodgsons will face Riccall Utd in the final of the East Riding Senior Country Cup. It was certianly hard work for the tanners having had to come from a goal down. Sports club scored on 18 mins and thoroughly deserved their lead.
During the first half, Chris Heath struck the bar and Adam Foster missed 2 good chances for Hodgsons. Sports Club continued to have the ‘lions share’ of posession and could and perhaps should of doubled their lead. The tanners were greatful to keeper Matt Dexter for a fantastic stop.
At half time, Hastings shared a few words of advise and encouragement to the team, and this took immediate effect. On 55 minutes Danny Cartwright made it 1-1. He tucked the ball away from close range after captain Paul Silvester delivered a cross from the right hand side.
The second half seemed to be a totally different affair. Hodgsons were playing with more grit and determination and winning that ‘2nd ball’.
Cartwright had a goal disallowed, whilst at the other end claims for a penalty were waved away after Dexter was alleged to have brought down a Sports Club forward.
As time was ticking away it looked very much that extra time was on the cards. Adam Foster had other ideas. Leaping up high like a salmon he nodded home Cartwrights cross. Sports Club re-started the game and within 40 seconds the referee blew his whistle.
Man of the match for Hodgsons Chris Robinson.
Hodgsons only have 2 remaining league fixtures, and now the focus is totally on those games in order to clinch the title. First up Reckitts away, Saturday 1st May
