Morris Dancing at the Royal Standard

A quiet Tuesday night in Beverley was brightened up by a crowd-pleasing performance from the Green Ginger Morris & Sword team.

The team made use of the broad pavement outside the Royal Standard, North Bar Within, to entertain drinkers and restaurant-goers with a host of colourful dances.

Dancing to the accordion and fiddle and – naturally – with tankards filled to the brim with real ale, the Morris men performed their full repertoire of dances, complete with clashing sticks and hankies.

The evening was rounded off when members of the public were invited to join them for their final two dances. The quality of the dancing was somewhat lowered and the participants may have felt (and looked) a bit foolish, but as the General Election gets into full flow, a bit of foolishness was a pleasant antidote.
