Councillor Rudd, who lives in Market Weighton, is a councillor for the Wolds Weighton ward. He was first elected as a member of East Yorkshire Borough Council and Market Weighton Town Council in 1985 and also served from 1987 on the former Humberside County Council before becoming a member of East Riding of Yorkshire Council on the authority’s inception in 1996. For the past two years, Councillor Rudd has served as vice chairman of Humberside Police Authority. He is also a governor of Market Weighton School.
Councillor Rudd said: “I am really looking forward to my year in office as Chairman of the Council. It is a tremendous opportunity to serve in a new role and meet many interesting people while representing the East Riding to the best of my ability.
“I also look forward to raising funds for my chosen charities, the Market Weighton scout and guide groups and N..S.P.C.C.”
Before his retirement in 2002, Councillor Rudd worked in various positions in the financial services sector.
He is an active member of the Wolds Conservative Group, which is affiliated to the East Yorkshire Conservative Constituency Association, and also a sidesman at Market Weighton All Saints Church.
Councillor Rudd is married to Rosemary and they have a daughter (Joanna) and son (Jonathan).
The new Vice-Chairman elected at the Council AGM is Councillor Kay West (Pocklington Provincial ward).
