Beckside is set to come alive when Beverley Barge Preservation Society hold their annual festival on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 May.
Beverley Beck will be packed with barges from all over the country as narrowboat addicts congregate to enjoy the friendly and fun atmosphere.
The entertainment will include performances from dance troops, bands and sea shanty singers, while there will also be stalls selling ice cream and refreshments, tombola and a whole host of fun and games.
The festival is one of the highlights of the year in Beckside, and the colours and sounds really emphasise just how much of an attraction the Beck can be when used properly.
The Beverley Barge Preservation Society was set up in 2000. The society owns and has renovated the MV Syntan, an ex-working barge previously operated by Richard Hodgson’s Tannery to carry hides and other tanning materials from Hull docks to the Beverley Beck.
As well as being a valuable piece of history, a floating museum and a great community resource, the Syntan can also be chartered to take people on a memorable trip down to the Humber Eastuary.
The Beverley Barge Preservation Society are inviting local traders who would like run stalls on the bank free of charge to get in touch.

The Beverley Barge Preservation Society was formed to provide a local amenity giving information on Beckside and its people, and the use of barges as a means of transferring goods to and from Richard Hodgson’s tannery in Beverley.
It offers visitors, especially youngsters and school parties, the opportunity to examine the barge and to understand how it, and others, provided economic benefits to the area. Interested parties can also get the chance to experience the journeys of the barge by taking a voyage down the River Hull to the Humber Estuary, either as crew members or paid charter. It provides an opportunity for youngsters to learn about boating in general by means of a Junior Section (ages 11-17) that teaches all aspects of boat handling.
The Society is a registered charity and needs to raise funds to maintain the barge Syntan and develop the ex-Waterways Board boat Sun, and to keep the Society in a condition that allows it to continue its work. Please help by becoming a member of the Society or by making a donation.
