Paul Lock Targets UK Title

Beverley bodybuilder Paul Lock has set his sights firmly on becoming the champion of Britain following a superb performance in the regional qualifiers on Saturday.

Paul, 37, put himself through 20 weeks of the most intense training possible to beat the cream of the area’s bodybuilders to win the overall and Class 4 titles at the National Amateur Body-builders Association (NABBA) North Area show held in Batley.

Now Paul has his eyes on the ultimate prize – winning the NABBA Britain Finals held at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Saturday 29 May and being crowned Mr Great Britain.

“This is the biggest win of my career,” Paul told HU17.net.

“I only enter one event a year, because it takes 20 weeks of very specific training to get ready for an event, and I end up sometimes losing up to three stone in 12 weeks.

“The finals in Southport are a massive event. NABBA is the organisation that catapulted the likes of Arnold Schwarznegger and Reg Park to stardom – it leads on to Mr Universe, and from there you can even start to think about going professional.

“But firstly, just to go all the way and win the British Title, to win that I would be very happy. It’s only my second year in NABBA and I finished second in the heats last year.

“I’ve looked where I went wrong, and I’m just concentrating on getting better in the next two weeks.”

Paul runs his own firm on Grovehill Road with girlfriend Natlie, selling his own body-building supplements on the brand name NAR Products – Natural Anabolic Resource.

With the couple on the verge of going nationwide with their business, Paul could be forgiven for stepping back from his competing and focusing on the business after 20 years of competing.

But  Paul is adamant that as long as he continues to improve, he’ll continue to push himself to the limit.

He said: “I look for progression, it’s what keeps me going and as long as I keep progressing I will carry on.

“If I find myself going backwards I will hang up my posing trunks, but I am getting better as I get older.”
