A special preview of detailed plans for the proposed new community hospital for the East Riding of Yorkshire will take place on 27 May 2010 at Temperton House, Beverley Westwood Hospital between 12 noon and 7 pm.

Visitors will also be able to view a video ‘fly-through’ of the new building and meet the team behind the proposed new development. The reserved matters planning application is to be submitted to the Council in early June where there is the opportunity to make comments through the formal planning process.

The hospital will include a 30-bed community ward, outpatient facilities, diagnostic services, including x-ray and ultrasound, minor injuries services, out of hours facilities, therapy services and a base for the neighbourhood care team.

Programme Director for the Community Hospital, Melanie Iredale, said:

“We know that there is a lot of interest in our plans for the new hospital and people want the opportunity to ask questions. This is a chance to preview the plans and latest visuals that are going to be submitted for planning approval. The design of the building incorporates best practice in sustainable building design standards and much thought has been given to landscaping and safeguarding the ecology of the site.

“Please come and view our plans for your new hospital.”

Background information:

Outline planning permission for the hospital was granted September 2009 and the Outline Business Case has been approved at regional level which is a major step forward. It is anticipated that the application for reserved matters planning approval will be considered in August.

A number of expert surveys and reports have been completed for flood and traffic volume which have satisfied the appropriate agencies that with the correct building design it is possible to limit and mitigate any impact the hospital might have on its surrounding environment.

The proposed new hospital is a much-needed replacement for the out-dated Beverley Westwood Hospital building which is limited in terms of access and expansion for new services. As well as first class services, the building will be a pleasant working environment for staff with an emphasis on quality and innovation throughout the building programme.
