Former Beverley Mayor David Elvidge and his partner Janet Morris were applauded for their fundraising efforts at the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) Annual General Meeting this week.
SSAFA was the official charity of councillor Elvidge during his year as mayor of Beverley, and it provides help for current and former servicemen and their families.
At the meeting, held at the Officers Mess DST Leconfield, councillor Elvidge and partner Janet were thanked for their fundraising efforts – they raised more than £7,500 for SSAFA – and were presented with certificates and their SSAFA bear.
They also handed over a bottle of House of Commons whiskey, donated by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, to be raffled or auction.
The AGM dealt with reports on finances and cases SSAFA dealt with during 2009. BAE Systems, based at Brough, were also present to talk about raising money for the charity.
