Tim Smith cracked only his second ever century for Beverley Town as he led the seconds to an impressive nine wicket defeat of Carlton Towers at the Norwood Recreation Ground on Saturday.
Smith hit a superb, unbeaten 105 to help Beverley Town 2nd XI chase down the visitors’ 173 and keep his side firmly in the hunt in Division Two of the York and District Senior Cricket League.
The bowlers certainly did their bit to restrict Carlton Towers to a modest total.
John Lewis picked up 4-53 and Matthew Mudd 4-45 as the Goole side were bowled out for 173 in just 35.1 overs.
In reply Smith took most of the strike and used it to great effect. With help from Ian Goforth (21) and Ali Brumfield (26 retired no), he hit 10 fours and guided his side to 175-1 and a well-deserved victory.
