Beverley’s rugby union and league players are uniting to raise funds for injured centre Craig ‘Chev Walker’ Hancock.
Hancock suffered an horrific broken leg in the dying minutes of Beverley ALFC superb Ray Speckman Cup victory against Cottingham Tigers last month.
Now players from the Blue and Golds and Beverley RUFC – for whom Hancock also plays – will take part in a unique ‘hybrid’ seven-a-side touch tournament to help the stricken star battle back to full fitness.
Following a series of meetings between officials at both clubs, the tournament will take place at Beaver Park, Beverley, on Sunday 29 August – the Bank Holiday weekend.
The tournament is for teams of ten, with seven players on the pitch at any one time, and will be played under mixed rules. Anyone can field a team, and full rules will be given on entry.
Entertainment on the day will include music and a bouncy castle, while there will also be a bar and barbecue.
Entry on the day will cost £2, with under 16s free, and all the proceeds of entry will go to Hancock.
