Thousands Attend Beverley Classic Car Show

Thousands of people basked in the late evening sunshine to enjoy Beverley’s Classic Car Rally last night.

From Toll Gavel down to Saturday Market, dozens of magnificently restored cars were admired by visitors to the town centre.

1930s British classics stood next to sporty MGs, while souped up Volkswagens and Japanese models were side by side with American muscle cars in a display that had everything for the motor enthusiast.

Owners were on hand to talk about their cars, answering any questions from inquisitive members of the public.

It made for a fantastic atmosphere and occasion and somehow it seemed to follow on perfectly from England’s victory over Slovenia.

Grant Openshaw, 69, from Thorngumbald, brought his Mk 1 Consul Cortina to the rally, and explained what it is that he enjoys so much about displaying his car in Beverley.

He said: “I come here every year – I love the area and I love being in Saturday Market.

“It’s always a great turn-out and lots of people come to chat with you about your car. It’s a really good night.”

Dennis Rogerson and his wife June, from Beeford, were sat enjoying the evening in their fantastic 1934 Austin 7 RP.

Dennis told HU17.net: “It’s great to see so many people interested in the car, especially some of the older ones who say they used to own one or their fathers did.

“It’s a lovely car to look at but it’s not so lovely to drive. It’s happy going along at 40, but you have to look out for potholes and manhole covers!”
