Opportunity Knocks for Louis Bruce

Beverley footballer Louis Bruce has his sights set on an England call-up.

Louis, 16, from Lincoln Way, is heading to Derby next week to take part in trials for the England under-18s football team.

He currently captains the Humberside Schools side and was nominated for the trials by his coach Cosi Basile.

Louis hopes he can seize his big chance and lay down a marker for his future.

He said: “I am really happy to have been put forward for this. Although I am captain of Humberside, I didn’t think I had been playing that well.

“This could lead to playing club football for me in future, either at football league clubs or even in the Conference.”

Louis, who is signing on for North Ferriby next season, will be one of the youngest players at the trials, although he will have company for the week-long event in team-mate Taylor Gray, from Grimsby.

And although he wants to succeed this year, he knows it will be tough for him.

He continued: “We will be up at 7.30 in the morning until 10.30 at night, and it will be football all the way.

“The coaches will be watching us all day so we will have to be on our best behaviour all the time.

“The first game is in September, and if I get into the squad there will be the chance to travel all over the world, to places like Korea and China.

“I will be one of the youngest players there, so if I don’t get in this year I will hopefully be able to go back and succeed next year.”
