Alex Morell started and finished Beverley Town CC 1st XI’s rout of Goole.
The pacey opening bowler grabbed a couple of early wickets and came back to rip through the tail as the visitors to the Norwood Recreation Ground were bowled our for 98 chasing Beverley’s 174.
Morell finished with 5-32, although he was ably backed up by the returning Jamie Mitchell, who helped himself to a nice little haul of 3-7.
It was quite a surprise to see such low totals on a track that’s usually bursting with runs, but Faisal Abid told HU17.net that the showers earlier in the day had brought a few demons out in the track.
No one was totally comfortable at the crease during Beverley’s innings, although several players did get good starts. Ian Gillyon continued his good run of form with 35 and Mitchell, in his ‘day job’ as a batsmen, hit 40.
Although it was a good day for Alan Acklam as captain, the wicket-keeping all-rounder was left seething after being adjudged lbw. He is adamant that, as a left-hander, it is almost impossible for him to be given out leg before.
