Madge Wilbore was awarded the Angela Gibson Memorial Trophy at the Cherry Burton Village Show for the best Victoria Sponge.
The trophy bears the name of the late wife of Beverley businessman Barry Gibson.
Barry, who owns the gift shop Streamers of Beverley said;
“Angela won the prize for best Victoria Sponge three consecutive times, though back then there was no trophy on offer.”
“When she died, I decided to give the committee a trophy in her memory. Madge, who won this year, used to live three doors away from us and I can not think a of nicer woman or more worthy prize winner.”
As it stands no one has equalled Angela’s achievement of three consecutive wins in this category, though this year there a was chance the record could be matched.
