Beverley Sprint Triathlon 2010

Beverley Leisure Centre played host to the second Beverley Sprint Triathlon last Sunday.  With 242 finishers the event attracted almost sixty more competitors than the inaugural event last year.

Organised by Freebird Events of York, the triathlon consisted of a 400m swim, a 20k cycle ride and a 5k run.  These distances allow experienced and novice triathletes to compete together.

The winner for the second year in succession was Ed Charlton-Weedy of the Army.  He completed the three disciplines in 55.18, almost 20 seconds faster than last year.

Several members of Beverley Athletic Club took part in the event and the first to finish was Olly Johnston.  Despite some confusion and delay in the pool when his lengths were miscounted, he finished in 25th place in 1.04.06, almost a minute faster than last year.

Kevin Hayward was the next Beverley Athletic Club man to finish, only a few seconds slower than last year, a very consistent performance.

After competing in an Iron Man triathlon in Austria last month, Paul Evans enjoyed the shorter distances of the Beverley event.  His best result was in the pool where he completed the 16 lengths in 7.57.

The only female from Beverley Athletic Club was Jackie Wright. She has worked hard to improve her cycling this year but her strongest discipline is still running.
