The 1st XI secured a valuable win at home to bottom of the table Thirsk, but only by the narrowest of margins. Tony Spence, reinstated to the team after almost 200 runs in the last four games for the 2nd XI, was the batting star of the day but not before veteran Simon Roe had produced a superb bowling spell to set up the win.
Beverley reduced their youthful North Yorkshire visitors to 58 for 7and then 73 for 8 but some determined lower order resistance allowed Thirsk to reach 134 for 9 from their 50 overs. Roe produced a remarkable effort in recording figures of 18-7-22-5.
Although this was only a modest total Beverley were soon in trouble at 20 for 4 and the target began to look much more ominous. A major recovery was brought about by a partnership of 64 between inform batsmen Spence and Faisal Abid (25) but another batting collapse saw Town reduced to 98 for 8. Enter the redoubtable Roe.
Not content with his marathon bowling stint he added 33 with Spence before succumbing to the slow bowler for 16. The excellent Spence remained undefeated on 54 when number 11 Mudd struck the winning runs.
