Graham Stuart, MP for Beverley and Holderness, today welcomed news KCOM will be allowed to sell landline and broadband services bundled together.
The communications industry watchdog, Ofcom, said it hoped the decision would allow KCOM to offer ‘better value’ packages to customers.
Graham said: “This is great news for many of my constituents who use Kingston Communications for their landline and Karoo for their broadband.
“I have written to KCOM asking them to create a range of bundles for customers as soon as possible.”
And he added: “We live in an age where quality high-speed communications are vital. It plays such a big part in virtually everything we do be it work, rest or play. So it is important companies like KCOM give the best possible service to customers at all times.”
Ofcom said it was suggesting bundles be made available to all homes and businesses, prices for bundles be published on the KCOM website and prices would be set so they did not ‘discourage’ other communications providers from offering services in the area.
Throughout the rest of the UK, many communications providers offer discounts to consumers when they buy two or more services. According to figures released by Ofcom in the first quarter of 2010 half of UK customers bought a bundle of communication services of two or more services, up from 29% in 2005.
