It was a lovely evening and Wednesday Market was gently humming with the sound of happy diners enjoying the last of the day’s sunshine. Bar Fusion’s outside area was full so we went inside. This place oozes style and sophistication, the decor is modern and funky, large chandeliers twinkle over stylish seating and chunky furniture.
We were greeted by a very friendly and helpful barman and after choosing from an interesting selection of beverages, lagers to cocktails, we enjoyed a relaxing chilled drink while we tackled the menu…
Ahh…the menu. Not being familiar with tapas, we struggled a little but the barman came to our rescue and advised us well. The idea is that several small dishes are ordered and shared. We were advised to order about two dishes per person.
We opted for spicy potatoes which went down very well, calamari, which were lightly fried in batter and were perfect – golden and soft (not the rubbery version!) The meat and cheese antipasti contained Serrano ham and other tempting meats with a selection of cheeses, and a delicious vegetarian platter of hummous and olives. We also went for a king prawn and chorizo dish which was our favourite – juicy prawns and tasty smoky Spanish sausage – just divine!
Our initial worries that we had not ordered enough were unfounded as we had also ordered homemade potato wedges and bread to accompany our dishes.
All the tapas dishes are very reasonably priced, ranging from £3.45 to the most expensive at £5.25.
A great feature of the Tapas Menu is that if you really cannot decide, there is the option of going for The Chef’s Choice, which is a selection of the most popular tapas dishes for only £9.95.
The menu also has an interesting range of salads, steaks, grills and fajitas, and two of my companions chose from the non-tapas part of the menu. The Grilled Chicken Burger with smoked bacon, salad, wedges and garlic mayonnaise on the side was declared as the best she’d ever eaten – and that’s saying something as she is somewhat of a Chicken Burger specialist.
The other tested the patience of the chef – but was reassured that as all meals are freshly cooked to order, it was no trouble at all to adapt the Spicy Chicken Skewer to her exacting specifications!
Children are welcomed but there is no separate menu for them, and there was a little disappointment from some of our group that there were no desserts on offer but most of us were far too full to even consider anything else!
This is informal dining at its best; Bar Fusion is extremely welcoming and accommodating. The bar staff are attentive and informed but not in your face and nothing is too much trouble. The atmosphere is chilled, stylish and relaxing, and the music enhanced what was already a very pleasurable dining experience. Try it for yourself!
