Beverley Traders are reminded that there are only a few weeks left to participate in promoting the town’s festive spirit at Christmas.
Prue Blake from the Beverley Christmas Lights Committee says:
“Last year the response from traders was wonderful and many people – Beverlonians and visitors alike – were very complimentary about the snowflakes attached to lamp standards and the small trees above the shops and offices.”
“The issue this year is the increased cost of the trees and lights to traders due to the price of trees, some lights need replacing and a great deal of Health and Safety work needs to be undertaken to the brackets and electric boxes.”
“Because of this increase a small group of volunteers delivered letters to traders earlier this year to explain, but so far the response has been disappointing and it seems that the town will not shine as brightly this Christmas unless more traders decide to have a tree.”
“Traders who order trees will have the brackets above their premises tested and the intention is that the cost of this and other work will be recouped over the next few years.”
“However, anyone deciding against having a tree will still need to have their tree brackets tested should they decide to use it, for anything at all in the future and are responsible for ensuring this happens.”
Please call the town council on 01482 874096 if you would like to order a tree.
