Beverley Town Beavers started the season with a local derby against newly promoted Barrel Walkington on Longcrofts 3G pitch.
With numbers depleted throughout the club the third XI beavers team saw a number of changes from the previous season however they managed to carve out the first clear chance of the game as Anfield found himself through on goal but shot wide of the left post.
The rest of the first half yielded few clear chances with both midfields battling hard to stop the opposition with Walkington’s Danny Moore finding the only opening only to see his shot well saved.
The second half saw Walkington on top without creating clear chances until a free kick found its way into the back of the net off the unfortunate defender Svensons head.
The goal gave the home side a visible lift and saw Beverley deflated only exacerbated by a sublime free kick from Beverley ex player Moore. Moore placed the dead ball over the wall and into the corner of the net to take all three points.
After the second goal Walkington were comfortably on top and with significant attacking options having been moved into the Reserves, Beverley struggled to create a response and the game petered out as Walkington kept the ball from a tiring Beverley.
A deserved win for the home side with a lot of positives for Beverleys Beaver team to take into the opening stages of the season. Final score, Barrel Walkington 2 Beverley Town Beavers 0
