The blue and golds took the spoils in an encounter which they appeared to possess more big guns than their youthful but enthusiastic opponents but at times made hard work of it. The hosts piled on the pressure early which eventually paid dividends with Gavin Proctor going over from his customary dummy half position in the 10th minute. Shortly after a well worked move amongst the forwards saw popular publican Ian Pollard go over to score a try which was converted by Steve Johnson. The home side continued to pile on the agony and a well worked move direct from the scrum saw Johnson feed Ian Lane who went over in blockbusting style.
Beverley ARLC then went off the boil following the ball going into touch direct from the kick off. The resultant set of six from the visitors winning the scrum saw them score a converted try. The home side conceded a series of penalties which allowed the Tigers to build more pressure and further reduce the arrears to 16-12 with a try just before the interval.
The second half was a hard fought affair with Beverley ARLC having to play 20 minutes of the half down to 12 men due to the sin binnings of Ian Pollard and Lee Falcus and with the visitors enjoying plenty of possession and territory it was testimony to the defensive qualities of the hosts that their line was not crossed. Mike Brown and Aaron Horsfield both got though tremendous tackling stints.
With all the pressure absorbed Beverley ARLC managed to score two second half tries. The first saw Steve Davidson and Ian Lane combine with some sweet passing to send Lee Falcus over in the corner. The second try saw quick thinking by Steve Johnson who switched play to the blind side to send Ian Lane over for his second try to put the result beyond doubt. Coach Rich Shaw commented ” We won today not exactly firing on all cylinders but when we do I am sure that someone will take a hammering”
This Saturday sees Beverley ARLC take on league newcomers Hull University Rangers- a side made up of the University staff not the students! . Kick off is 2pm at Inglemire Lane. Meanwhile Beverley ARLC have been handed a tie away to Cottingham Tigers in the first round of the Tom Beautiman Cup which will take place on October 23rd.
