Beverley Whitestar Ladies Thrash Grassroots

On a rain soaked afternoon Whitestar took to the field determined to make amends for last weeks defeat. Within 3 minutes the girls got back on track when the impressive Becks Thompson opened the scoring from a well hit free kick from a full 30 yards.

As the goal went in Beverley’s confidence returned and the visitor’s struggled to deal with the pace, passing and movement that Whitestar were displaying and on 6 minutes the lead was double when a great cross by Lauren Coleman caused panic in the area resulting in an own goal.

Grassroots refused to lay down and got back into the game with a well taken goal making it 2-1, Rachel (halibut) Fisher was making great runs through the middle for Whitestar and extended the lead not once but twice making it 4-1.

Yet again Grassroots made sure beverley remained on their toes and grabbed themselves another goal, only for Kayleigh Oliver, Rachel Fisher grabbing her hat trick, and Mel Marsden to score again before half time with both teams thoroughly drenched we went in to the interval with the scores at 7-2 to Beverley Whitestar.

In the second half Whitestar wasted no time increasing their lead as Kayleigh Oliver grabbed her second of the game. Zoe Ellis and Carisa Mitcheson were creating havoc down the wings and were creating chances for the forwards and with Beverley in red hot form “Olly” soon scored her hat trick. The second half turned into the Kayleigh Oliver show as she ran the Ravens defence ragged and in an amazing feat ended the game with 8 (eight) goals to her name! Grassroots did pull a goal back before the end but Whitestar were always to strong and ran out convincing winners 14-3.

Woman of the match really could’ve gone to any one of the home team, captain Mel Marsden was immense, the devastating Olly grabbing 8 goals and Rachel Fisher getting 3 goals too but the bubbles were awarded to Zoe Ellis. Zoe had a fantastic afternoon, she linked play excellently, was always a threat and sent over some great crosses providing many chances for her team mates.

A special mention needs to be given to Jenna Potter who is going to University on Monday, she’s been outstanding this season, unfortunately this means we’ll be seeing less of her but we wish her all the best and we’ll miss her hugely. Whitestar will be looking to continue their promising to the start of the season when they take on Pinefleet Wolfreton at Hull University next Sunday.

Manager Jamie Oliver said “I am delighted with this great start.  We have now scored 31 goals in 3 games, and I think the best is still to come.”
