Police are appealing for information following an assault in August 2010.
Between 2100hrs and 2130hrs on Monday 16 August 2010, two people were walking along Cherry Tree Lane in Beverley when it is alleged a group of about 25-30 teenagers passed them.
The two men walked about ten meters past the group who at this point were walking along Grovehill Road when it is alleged one of the group of teenagers ran up to the two men and assaulted one of them.
The victim was pushed to the floor outside several houses, on Grovehill Road , in Beverley , and was verbally abused and repeatedly assaulted to the face, ear, chest and shoulders.
The victim, who was visiting the area from France, was taken to Westwood Hospital by his friend and later transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment.
The victim, an 18-year-old French man, sustained bruising to the upper body, swelling to the face and a bitten ear.
During the assault the remaining group of teenagers came closer to the scene but are not believed to have got involved.
The group however did overspill into the road whilst the altercation occurred.
Several witnesses are sought to this assault, as many passing cars will have had to manoeuvre around the group of teenagers.
Witnesses who have since come forward have deemed the assault as racially aggravated due to the colour of the victim’s skin.
The victim has since returned to France.
PC Rachel Eyre from Beverley Police Station said: “This type of behaviour is not acceptable in Beverley and I am sorry someone visiting this historic town had to endure such an assault. This is a very busy area of Beverley and at the time of the assault, several people apparently walked and drove past the incident.
“With so many teenagers, believed to be in their late teen’s present, over spilling into the road, it is likely a number of people saw what happened? The assault took place outside a number of houses somewhere between Cherry Tree Lane and Trinity Grove. If we have not spoken to you, please come forward.”
Anyone who witnessed the alleged assault is asked to contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 quoting crime reference number CS/1777322/2010.
