Beverley Town Under-9s beat Hessle Sporting Typhoons Under-9s 1-0 and 3-2.
Two closely fought matches resulted in hard-earned victories on each occasion for Beverley Town. The contest was played in great spirit both on and off the pitch, and credit must go to Hessle for their teamwork and ability, as well as for coming back from two-nil down to level the second match. Nevertheless, Beverley eventually managed to maintain a 100% record at the start of their first truly competitive season.
The line-up read : Daniel Wilson as skipper, ably supported by George Armstrong, Matty Blake, Tyler Clarke, Daniel Finch, Tom Snowden and Max Wright, and with no additional players today thus requiring herculean efforts from all to play every minute of every game.
Game 1 was a tight affair, with a superb volley from Daniel Wilson clinching the points. Game 2 opened up significantly, with Beverley moving into what seemed a comfortable two goal lead, from Daniel again, and Tom Snowden. Hessle never gave up, and scored twice in quick succession in the second half. Beverley’s heads appeared to drop, but coach Ed Grady’s wise words of encouragement and astute tactical switches paid dividends when Tom Snowden pounced on a through ball, and produced a lethal top-corner finish.
All players take up a variety of positions throughout the games, so as to appreciate the qualities needed to achieve in both defence, midfield and attack. This engenders a marvellous team spirit, and it is clear to witness that the boys all try their hardest for their team-mates. They have been together for some time now, around three years, and have developed wonderfully with the help of Ed’s coaching.
