New traffic lights at a busy junction will be switched on this Tuesday.
Work to install traffic signals at the busy Jock’s Lodge Interchange where the A1079 Beverley Bypass meets the A164 between Beverley and Willerby is almost complete.
The scheme has been designed to improve traffic flows at the junction with particular emphasis on allowing traffic coming off the A1079 to join the A164 safely.
The signals are due to be activated on Tuesday, 5 October. While they incorporate the latest traffic sensing technology, designed to minimise waiting times, traffic flows will be monitored over the coming week or so and the system manually adjusted to optimise the signal sequencing.
Councillor Matthew Grove, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s portfolio holder for highways and emergency planning, said: “These new signals, which are not funded by the taxpayer, will help everyone leaving the A1079 to join the A164.
“Waiting times will be reduced and the whole junction will be much safer. I would ask however that motorists remain patient following the switch on of the lights as it will take a week or so for them to be configured to maximum performance.”
